Auslachen is the ancient homeland of the firbog race. It is the northeastern portion of the Plain of the White Worm and stretches into the Ceith Mountains and abuts the black ice of Iztalik. It also shares the Iron Hills in the north with the realm of Alisanos. This portion of the great white plain is not as flat as the central and eastern portions are. The land that is Auslachen is an upland extension of the plain, a great plateau of dark earth setup a thick granite base.

The whole realm rises roughly 1,200 feet above the great plain as it ascends towards the Ceith Mountains. Unlike most of the plain there is a large number of lakes that are fed by the cold snows and rain of the seasons and unseen springs. Scattered here and there are irregular protrusions of the granite that form small hillocks and knolls.

Auslachen is divided into sixteen smaller fiefdoms. Each fiefdom is a entity unto itself and is rarely influenced by the goings on of the other states within the realm. While there is no hostility between fiefdoms, the creation of these states is done so to recognize the largest of the firbog clans.

Each of the fiefdoms are responsible for their members, their survival and their lands. This does not mean that firbogs are inconsiderate nor have little care for other clans, this is more of a recognition that each clan must bolster the whole of the race and in order to do they must be able to survive on their own. When a clan appears to be on the verge of collapse or it is unable to fend for itself, the clan is traditionally split among other clans of the same breed and the former clans land is then absorbed into one or more other clans.

Freedom is an essential part of the clan thinking and thus the thinking of most firbog. They tend to value free will over all other things. Each clan however, conducts itself by a codes of conduct. At the center of this code is the idea that individuals should be judged based upon their actions and their honor. The Laws of Karta state:

  • Bravery, Honor, Strength, and Loyalty above all else.
  • Clan honor above all other honor
  • Honor all beings as equals
  • Secret charity is considered grand valor
  • Speak honestly and preserve your honor and valor

The clans live by these codes as they are used in nearly every aspect of firbog life. While every clan interprets the code and laws differently, they all agree that preservation of firbog society, culture and future is the highest priority of every individual and clan and they all see these laws and codes as vital to their survival in this cold harsh land.

While the realm of Auslachen is predominately flat save for the Iron Hills in the north and the rising Ceith Mountains in the east, each clan has been able to erect various villages. While most firbogs live in small communities, there are many that tend to live in large groups or villages. Depending on the locale of a specific clan the type of village established varies. Those that live in the north near or in the Iron Hills or the Ceith Mountains tend to have built their villages in and around large cave complexes. While clans that are more westerly or central have built large villages surrounded by thick, heavy logs that they have brought down from the Ceith Mountains. Many times these villages will be surrounding a large constructed underground settlement that firbog have dug out and reinforced.

Major Fiefdoms

Bauh Raok

The largest and most powerful of the firbog clans the Bauh Raok clan dominates a large region of the central portion of Auslachen. There are several large villages built mostly of stone that follow a small rise of knolls within the central plains. Its largest village Veresk is a traditional trade-center for all of Auslachen. Veresk lies in a bowl shaped valley surrounded by open grasslands to the south the rise of knolls to the north. This fief is lead and governed by Bretoch Deepstone, a very large and powerful orias firbog. It is home to the following clans: Terra, Darkstone, Deepstone and Huitha.

Gokru Bagh

Dominating the lower slopes of the Cethia Mountains, the second largest firbog fiefdom has developed a great number of forging smithies that are well known through out the north for their ability to forge finely crafted weapons and armor. The lower slope is filled with several hundred mines that delve deeply into the roots of the mountains. Gokru Bagh is ruled by a council of three known as Githik. It is made up of three of the eldest matriarch individuals of the various clans.

Khag Urin

The Khag Urin fiefdom controls most of the lower horn of Auslachen bordering Alisanos and Myanothia. The fiefdom is best known for its various trademoots that has through out the year. The fiefdom was originally founded by only two clans of firbog: Deepheart and Greyclouds, over the past centuries it has welcomed an additional 13 clans to occupy the land. Most firbogs of this fiefdom are well known for their agricultural and farming skills.

Jal Thagh

Bordering the Ceithlenn at the head of the Asloc River, the Jal Thagh fiefdom is the fourth largest fiefdom. It is held responsible for the lower defense against the barbarian hordes of Ceithlenn. Jal Thagh is known for its extensive military training.

Mul Uragh

The Mul Uragh fiefdom controls most of the Iron Hills that border Izalik. The majority of clans are erdo firbog. While most of the feifdoms of Auslachen tend to be open and friendly, the Mul Uragh feifdom is shrouded in darkness and superstition. This has lead the fiefdom to become nearly xenophobic towards other races, including other firbog. The Iron Hills tend to allow for this darkness and superstition often heightening the encounters others have with the firbog of this fiefdom.
