Founded in 25 SR the Year of Dark Rise by the ex-Knight of Elal, Warlord Kal Phyriax and named after him, Kal Phyriax is a region of tyranny and evil. Originally, Kal Phyriax was meant to be a realm for good, but through the years of deceit and treachery within its ruling ranks, it soon became a haven for beings of evil intent and philosophy. It has since become a major enemy of the Duchy of Harr, Myanothia and the Haaran Empire as well as those that travel the Sea of Dragons.

Kal Phyriax is a land of rugged hills that give way to steep mountainous slopes of the broken edge of the Blue Mountains to the north. Where the land is relatively flat, thick bogs and moors are constantly in competition with hard-soil plots of farmland. The plains of Kal Phyriax are dotted with various types of moors and swamps. These shallow wetlands provide a large variety of plants and wild life including a great number of monsters. Drier portions of the land are host to hardy grasses, and low bushes which often feed the large herds of sheep and goats that are often herded between the various small villages.

Other than the monsters that inhabit the various moors, marshes and swamps, Kal Phyriax is relatively free of hordes of other monstrous humanoids. Nevertheless, Kal Phyriax as a continuing blood war with the orcs of Ni Ilik that hail from the southern portion of the Blue Mountains.

As a whole the entirety of Kal Phyriax is controlled by the Thane of Kaltalik and his iron grip around the four counties that make up the lands of Kal Phyriax Those that are not forced into the service of the various Kal Phyriax armies, spend most of their time herding flocks, hunting, and farming.

Kal Phyriax abounds in slavery, both as a trading source and as a user of slaves. Many of these slaves are taken by raiding parties that invade Harr, Myanothia and the Haaran Empire. The slave traders then make their ways into places as the Duchy of Mashrapur, the Baronies of Vishraan, and as far south as the Empire of Resha and Pash Tar.
