Stretching across the western heartlands from the troll lands of Tallak to the Lands of Talica and the northern barbarian hordes, the Minthirath Mountains stand like a wall dividing the Western Realms. These mountains are a harsh terrain with near vertical mountainsides that are better described as cliffs than slopes. They are filled with a variety of wildlife as well as monsters. Despite their basic design, the mountains are surrounded by lush rolling foothills, filled with oak, fir and white bark pine trees. The mountains themselves are made from a dark granite stone and are covered in thick layers of red earth, giving the whole range a dark and ominous look.

The Loikar River cuts a path right through the mountains. Since the beginning of time this river has sheared the mountain as it has passed through, and the canyon walls are perfectly vertical. In places the vertical walls have fallen open to caves and caverns, many of which are several hundred feet deep, while others have opened themselves up to the depths of DeepEarth.

The mountains are a known home for several dragon clans including several air dragons, fire dragons and a number of earth dragons. A small clan of water dragons inhabits the Ghuldar Lake region, that occupies the central portion of the mountains.

Lost within the mountains the ancient dwarven city of Mirtan sits in exile, filled with unspeakable horrors, hordes of monsters and is rumored to be controlled by a mighty demon.
