Myanothia is a nation of duchies rising in the area north of the Sea of Dragons situated between the Black Mountains and the Lands of Pal Hurr to the west, Alisanos to the north and Ta' Kanasiti to the east.

Amongst the oldest of the northern nations, Myanothia was established when the independent duchies of Gahlena, Lyrabion, Dilphur, and Syrshal were united by the firbog war captain Urskas Myanthak in an effort to face the rising menace of gobliniod hordes advancing from the upper regions of present day Alisanos and Auslachen.

After the end of the Goblin Wars, Myanthak established a ruling council of dukes from each of the various duchies. This Grand Council are the true protectors of the realm and currently number thirteen (13). They each represent one of the duchies that makeup the whole of the realm. These include the duchies of: Gahlena, Lyrabion, Dilphur, Syrshal, Damarah, Hlemach, Raasten, Aglaren, Nentyr, Dalelund, Thardun, Telfmar, and Tuigar.

Each of the duchies are friendly with each other, but there are the occasional disturbances, but these tend to be more on a local level between rival villages of different duchies. Most end peacefully as the local magistrates tend to establish the laws that thwart any real hostilities.

Every year, and each time in a different duchy, there is held the Ceremony of Champions. This is grandest festival in the region where knights of the various realms, come to compete for the highest honors in Myanothia. This is preceded by various tournaments that are held in each of the thirteen duchies. Where warriors, knights, cavaliers, and others compete for title and positioning that culminates in the Ceremony of Champions each spring.

Myanothia does not meddle in the affairs of other kingdoms beyond its border. Attempting to stay a neutral party in the affairs of the northern realms.

Trade within the realm itself is extensively done, and most merchants have no fear of traveling the roads, even late into the night, as the roads within the realm are frequently patrolled by the various duchies. Travel between the various duchies is only obstructed by the requirement that those that travel must have proper papers, that can be obtained from local magistrates of the villages that rest along the borders of the duchies. Those found without one may be escorted to the closest village to obtain proper papers, or escorted out the duchy in question.

Myanothia is rich in copper, silver and iron lodes that are mined within the Red Hills that take up much of the central region of the nation.

Currently, the capital of the realm is Carigan which has been the capital for the past fifty years. Every one hundred years a new capital is selected by the Grand Council. This decision tends to bring out the political factions of each duchy as they attempt to lobby for the Grand Council.

Major Features

River of Asloc

Cutting right through the western part of the nation runs the River of Asloc. It is among the largest rivers in the whole of Ta Los, second only in legnth to that of the Min Haoc that cuts north-east through Mannheim and the Vast. The great river at points is nearly 300’ wide and 200 feet deep. It is as though some god dragged a plow right down the center of the land, causing its banks to slope upwards before plunging deep into the cold, blue waters of the river.

While most Myanothians see the river as a major source for trade transportation, others should be aware of the River of Asloc. Most of its length is calm and serene, the surface of the water swirling in large circles as the currents below the surface run fast over a sandy bottom. It is home to hundreds of different water creatures as well as many other creatures that use the river to hide underwater entrances to lairs.

There are many, many legends and tales of the great river. Most center around the loss of loved ones, resurrection, and the dead. There are a few legends and tales that speak of a race of beings that inhabit the deepest parts of the river, where they live in communities beneath the surfaces. These beings, called the botua, are said to become mortal men and women at night who come ashore to live among the peoples of the land, only to return to the waters of the river before daybreak.

Other tales indicate that in the darkest, deepest parts of the river are large, cave-like openings that lead to tunnels that are filled with water but feed a gigantic underground lake where the dead of the world go to live out their lives after their deaths. These beings, or spirits, are not considered undead or evil things rather they are living dead of those that have strong ties to the real world.

Whatever the tales, the depths of the river has kept its secrets and will like continue to keep them.
