From World of Kralis
Kralis is a land of stark contrast. One minute there is silence in the forests that is suddenly broken by the tearing sounds of great machines as they crash through, ripping trees from the ground and leaving gigantic footprints as deep as an aelwyn is tall.
You could be in what is perhaps the thickest and overgrown forest one minute and suddenly step in to the bright light of a great plain laying before with dark grey or purple mountains just visible in the far distance.
It also a world of extremes. Climates can be an ally or a foe, the land itself can rise against you and the weather can turn on you in a matter of moments. It is also a world of vastness. No one creature could possibly see every country, visit every forest, explore every mountain and sail the vast oceans of the world. Few beings can even say that they have been more than a couple miles in any one direction. Even the merchants, who are like ants moving busily to and fro, will never see the vast world that they call home.
There are simply hundreds of different cultures, even among the different races themselves, and they are spread across nearly every corner of the world seperated by distance and time.
This world of yours is filled with unspeakable horrors, monsters and haunted by things that most would rather never know even exist. A world where civilization is focused into islands of safety and comfort holding back the WildLands, the darker places of the world and fighting against the dark and the horrors that lie beyond their borders.
There are few large cities that act like anchors for the numerous towns and villages that dot the world. While most of the civilized world is surrounded by untamed wilderness, many of the cities, towns and villages are connected by rough, stone paved roads that they tend to, protecting them as best they can lest they be swallowed up by the dark wilderness and their homes become cut off from the rest of the world.
These roads are the veins of life that connect the world, and yet to either side the world is a dark place. Stray from the roads, even a little bit, and you will find yourself quickly surrounded by monster filled forests, empty ruins, desolate places and haunted badlands.
Many look upon the world around them with fear and dread knowing that just beyond their lit torches and lanterns lie creatures that will feast upon them, destroy their homes and haunt their dreams. Yet, there are those that look upon the world as a wild place waiting to be explored and tamed at the tip of a sword.
It is a world filled with mystery and horror, where realms are under contanst attack from raiders, wandering monsters, rampaging hordes, or other disasters. The world beyond the high walls of a city or the low, meager stone walls of a village is desolate place where evil things gather.
It is also a world filled with hope and unfullfilled dreams where heroes are born fighting against the darkness of the world and grand adventure is but a few steps out your door.
